Look Out Below!

Aside from rain (and hail), birds, planes, meteors... and UFOs, here are just a few things that have reportedly fallen from the sky.

In 2007 and 2008, "Red Rain" fell from the skies over Kerala, India and some are now considering it as a possible case of extraterrestrial life form.

A Few Past Events:
In August of 2001, Wichita, Kansas experienced an unexplained rain of corn husks.

In May 1981 frogs fell from the sky over Naphilion, a city in southern Greece. The species of frog that fell was native to North Africa.

In 1956 in Chilatchee, Alabama a couple watched as a small dark cloud formed in the sky, then released its contents of various fish. The cloud turned white then disappeared. The fish were alive.

On September 7, 1953 frogs and toads fell from the sky over Leicester, Massachusetts.

On October 23, 1947, fish fell over the town of Marksville, Louisiana. Although it was a bit foggy that day it wasn't raining and there were no reports of storms, or tornadoes in the vicinity at the time of the incident.

May 15, 1900, fish fell on the town of Olneyville, Rhode Island.

In November 1896, early morning brought a deluge of dead birds that fell from the sky over Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The sky was clear. The birds included wild ducks, woodpeckers and many others.

In 1894, Jellyfish dropped down on Bath, England.

In 1881, during a thunderstorm in Worcester, England, tons of periwinkles and hermit crabs fell from the sky.

In 1877, several alligators about a foot in length, fell on a farm in South Carolina. According to a
report in The New York Times, the alligators were alive, unharmed and crawling around.
That same year, a rain of living snakes fell over the southern part of Memphis, Tennessee.

In August of 1870, a shower of water lizards hit Sacremento, California. The water lizards were alive when they hit the ground.

August 1, 1869, an unidentified animal (thought to be a cow), came down in pieces over California. A similiar incident happened in 1876, when pieces of some unidentified animal rained down on Olympian Springs, Bath County, Kentucky.

In 1861, Singapore saw a rain of fish from the sky.

Throughout the years, strange objects, animals, fish, birds and frogs, have been swept up in tornadic winds, to be deposited elsewhere. However, water spouts and tornadoes cannot account for every oddity that falls from the sky.

It's no wonder that Chicken Little thought the sky was falling.

UFO Approaches Couple on The Interstate

Midnight, September 4, 2009-
South Carolina, on the Interstate.

My wife and I were coming back home to Georgia after visiting family in South Carolina. We were driving on the interstate, it was about 9 p.m.. I was looking up in the sky and saw some small lights from a distance. I told my wife and she said that it was a plane.

Well all of a sudden, the multicolored light object we thought was a plane got huge in a matter of seconds and was coming towards us. It seemed like forever but it probably lasted about 10 seconds. It looked just like a disc, like the old UFO pics you see. The lights were orange, white and red.

I am very sure that when it headed towards us, that it was not a plane! My wife said, "Oh my God, Chris look!" and we both were terrified. I just stared at it and then all of a sudden, it vanished. I have always been the skeptic when it comes to "UFOs" but there was no denying this.

Entire Neighborhood Saw UFO Chased By Jets

Edgecliff, Texas

It was after August 1976, but I am not sure of exact year or month. We were returning from dinner - the sun was down but it was summer and it was still light out.

We pulled up on York Drive and noticed a whole bunch of people standing in the street all looking in the same direction (to the west) - upwards of 30 or so people I'd say.

We walked down and asked what was going on. They pointed up to the sky. There was a large, stationary disc-shaped object just hovering there in the sky, with white lights around the edges and four larger lights on the bottom.

It's hard to describe exactly but I remember being aghast, like you can't believe what you're seeing. My mother ran inside to call the most trusted weatherman and newsperson in the DFW area, Harold Taft at Channel 5, to report it and see if anyone there knew about it. I was running back and forth between her and outside. Her fingers were shaking as she dialed.

They didn't know of anything in the sky that could cause that and said they'd gotten several other calls about it. I remember them scrambing to find a camera, but back then they weren't
kept on the ready like they are now.

Military fighter jets arrived and chased it. The object would move to a different point in the sky with incredible speed, then again just hover there while the jets had to make a traditional turn to try and pursue the object.

It moved so much faster than the jets that it was almost comical. It was almost like it was toying with the jets, playing with them or teasing them or something as it darted here and there, making the jets try to follow. Finally it appeared to tire of the game and took off to the northwest and disappeared from sight within seconds due to the sheer speed it was travelling at.

There was a short article in the Star Telegram the following day, and about six months to a year later there was a follow up article saying they had done research and still had not been able to determine what the object actually was.

I've always wanted to do the research at the Star Telegram archives or have the other neighborhood residents interviewed just to see if any of them had movies or film. My father also saw it and is still alive, and I'm sure there are other people still in the neighborhood who could testify what they saw.

I just thought I should document this in case anyone else could benefit from the info somehow, especially since it was documented in the newspapers.

Triangle UFO Seen in Gainesville

At about 8 o'clock my wife and I hopped in the hot tub to relax. We have a great view of the stars.

At about 8:15 we observed a triangular craft flying at a high rate of speed heading south. It had three lights underneath. There were no flashing lights or a beacon light. We did have the noise of the hot tub but heard no sound.

The craft quickly left our line of site behind the trees. Just seconds after it left our sight, an airplane at roughly the same altitude flew over us in the opposite direction of the unknown craft.

What surprised us, is that even with the hot tub running we could here the jet engines of the airplane as it flew over. We do have a lot of airplanes fly over this area and what we saw was no airplane.

Backyard Bigfoot and UFOs

What does Bigfoot have in common with UFOs? Where you see one, you just might see the other, or so it seems. Peter Guttilla, a freelance writer and researcher from Southern California seems to think so too. [Interview with Peter Guttilla]

Recently, a man in Kentucky was having trouble with his backyard garden, so he set up a game (surveillance) camera. Aside from the usual rabbits and racoons, his camera also caught something quite unusual. It appears that Bigfoot likes Kenny Mahoney's garden in southern Jefferson County, Kentucky.

According to reports posted to MUFON, Kentucky has also had a recent spate of UFO sightings. In the past, a few UFO eye witnesses from other parts of the country, have claimed to have seen Bigfoot type creatures in, or around alien spacecraft. Maybe that's why Bigfoot is so seldom seen? ;-)

I believe Mr. Mahoney should not only keep an eye out for Bigfoot, he should also keep an eye on the sky.

I played the CNN video and did a video capture screen-shot of the creature. I worked on the photo with light levels and color, until this face began to appear. I did not add or subtract anything. I simply darkened shadows and lightened mid-range/highlights. It certainly doesn't look like any bear I've ever seen and unless there is a gorilla that has escaped from some zoo or wildlife habitat, I think that is a picture of Bigfoot.


I continued to work with the color, shadows and highlights until I came up with a portrait of Bigfoot.

Note: I saw once, what I believed to be a Bigfoot. I was residing at a rural farm in Eastland County, in 2008. I kept hearing a strange "knocking" sound in the woods, then a holler of something like I'd never heard before. When I went outside with a flashlight, my light shown on a dark shape and face at the edge of the woods, which were less than 100 feet from the house.

The massive form matched the description of a Bigfoot. It was tall, dark, huge and stunk to high heaven. I beat a hasty retreat into the house and locked the door! I reported it to the Texas Bigfoot Research Organization but I guess they didn't take me seriously. If they had, they would have found evidence.

I realize that some might say that it appears that I manipulated the photo in some way, yet all I did was bring out what was already there. In the second photo, I did outline the eyes and add a glint of reflection, only to show how the eyes might appear.

If I, a lowly graphics artist, can achieve this with my limited resources, surely someone with much better graphics programming and skills can do so much more, to prove once and for all whether photos and videos of Bigfoot (and UFOs), are real or hoaxed.

Would I say that this video in question is hoaxed by a man in an ape suit? Surely not. My answer would be, "Why? For what purpose and if so, the hoaxer did an exemplary job."

Hubble Opens New Eyes on the Universe

SEN. MIKULSKI UNVEILS FIRST IMAGES FROM REJUVENATED HUBBLE

WASHINGTON — Astronomers declared NASA's Hubble Space Telescope a fully rejuvenated observatory with the release Wednesday of observations from four of its six operating science instruments. Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski, D-Md., unveiled the images at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

Topping the list of new views are colorful, multi-wavelength pictures of far-flung galaxies, a densely packed star cluster, an eerie "pillar of creation," and a "butterfly" nebula. Hubble's suite of new instruments allows it to study the universe across a wide swath of the light spectrum, from ultraviolet all the way to near-infrared. In addition, scientists released spectroscopic observations that slice across billions of light-years to probe the cosmic-web structure of the universe and map the distribution of elements that are fundamental to life as we know it.

"This marks a new beginning for Hubble," said Ed Weiler, associate administrator for NASA's Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "The telescope was given an extreme makeover and now is significantly more powerful than ever, well-equipped to last into the next decade."

"I fought for the Hubble repair mission because Hubble is the people's telescope," said Mikulski, chairwoman of the Commerce, Justice and Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds NASA. "I also fought for Hubble because it constantly rewrites the science textbooks. It has more discoveries than any other science mission. Hubble is our greatest example of our astronauts working together with scientists to show American leadership and ingenuity. I want to salute Team Hubble — everyone who worked on Hubble from the Goddard Space Flight Center and Space Telescope Science Institute scientists in Maryland, to the ground crew at the Kennedy Space Center, to the Johnson Space Center where the astronauts train, and to the astronauts who were heroes in space."

The new instruments are more sensitive to light and, therefore, will improve Hubble's observing efficiency significantly. It is able to complete observations in a fraction of the time that was needed with prior generations of Hubble instruments. The space observatory today is significantly more powerful than it ever has been.

"We couldn't be more thrilled with the quality of the images from the new Wide Field Camera 3 and repaired Advanced Camera for Surveys, and the spectra from the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph and the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph," said Keith Noll, leader of a team at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, which planned the early release observations. "The targets we've selected to showcase the telescope reveal the great range of capabilities in our newly upgraded Hubble."

These results are compelling evidence of the success of the STS-125 servicing mission in May, which has brought the space observatory to the apex of its scientific performance. Two new instruments, the Wide Field Camera 3 and Cosmic Origins Spectrograph, were installed, and two others, the Advanced Camera for Surveys and Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph, were repaired at the circuit board level. Mission scientists also announced Wednesday that the Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer was brought back into operation during the three months of calibration and testing.

"On this mission we wanted to replenish the 'tool kit' of Hubble instruments on which scientists around the world rely to carry out their cutting-edge research," said David Leckrone, senior project scientist for Hubble at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. "Prior to this servicing mission, we had only three unique instrument channels still working, and today we have 13. I'm very proud to be able to say, 'mission accomplished.'"

For the past three months, scientists and engineers at the Space Telescope Science Institute and Goddard have been focusing, testing, and calibrating the instruments. Hubble is one of the most complex space telescopes ever launched, and the Hubble servicing mission astronauts performed major surgery on the 19-year-old observatory's multiple systems. This orbital verification phase was interrupted briefly July 19 to observe Jupiter in the aftermath of a collision with a suspected comet.

Hubble now enters a phase of full science observations. The demand for observing time will be intense. Observations will range from studying the population of Kuiper Belt objects at the fringe of our solar system to surveying the birth of planets around other stars and probing the composition and structure of extrasolar planet atmospheres. There are ambitious plans to take the deepest-ever near-infrared portrait of the universe to reveal never-before-seen infant galaxies that existed when the universe was less than 500 million years old. Other planned observations will attempt to shed light on the behavior of dark energy, a repulsive force that is pushing the universe apart at an ever-faster rate.

The Hubble Space Telescope is a project of international cooperation between NASA and the European Space Agency. Goddard manages the telescope. The Space Telescope Science Institute conducts Hubble science operations. The institute is operated for NASA by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. in Washington, and is an International Year of Astronomy 2009 program partner.

9/8/2009- What Were Those Lights?

It was September 8, 2009, just a few minutes after 9:00 p.m. EDT.

What were those lights that people from California, to Michigan and even Ontario, Canada were seeing... and reporting?

If they had checked with NASA's Human Space Flight satellite tracking pages, they would have known.

If it isn't overcast and raining, you'll find me outside tonight... watching for the Shuttle and the ISS to cruise overhead at 8:37 p.m. and 8:38 p.m., respectively.
