Big Asteroid to Zoom By Earth This Weekend


Space.com- A newly discovered asteroid the size of a football field will cruise through Earth's neighborhood this weekend, just days after another space rock made an even closer approach to our planet.

The 330-foot-wide (100 meters) asteroid 2013 ET will miss Earth by 600,000 miles (960,000 kilometers) when it zips by on Saturday (March 9). The space rock flyby will come just days after the 33-foot (10 m) asteroid 2013 EC approached within 230,000 miles (370,000 km) of us early Monday (March 4).

When asteroid 2013 ET passes Earth, it will be at a range equivalent to 2.5 times the distance between the planet and the moon, making it too faint and far away for most stargazers to spot in the night sky. But the Virtual Telescope Project in Italy, run by astrophysicist Gianluca Masi, will webcast a live telescope view of the space rock's flyby on Friday (March 8), beginning at 2 p.m. EST (1900 GMT). Asteroid 2012 DA14 - A Meteoric Close Shave Predicted

There is a 150ft wide rock headed for Earth.   Traveling between 12,427mph (20,000kph) and 18,641mph (30,000kph), asteroid 2012 DA14 is expected to fly by, even closer than the orbits of high geostationary telecommunications and weather satellites.   Some of those satellites are 22,000 miles (35,406km) above Earth.   However, experts calculate that on February 15, 2013, 2012 DA14 will skim by Earth at a distance of approximately 17,200 miles (27,681km).

Well, that's a relief!   A 330ft meteor is believed to have been the cause of the 1908 explosion over a remote region of Siberia, known as Tunguska.   Although that object exploded a short distance above the ground, it generated a blast that was 1000 times more destructive than the A-bomb dropped on Hiroshima.   The 1908 explosion completely flattened 830 square miles (2,150 sq km) of Tunguska forest.

Don't put off getting those flowers, chocolates, or other Valentine treats for your honey.   2012 DA14 is predicted to be at it closest approach at approximately 1:30 PM Friday (the 15th), Texas time.

T'is the Season!

Well, another year is about gone and 2012 has really been a doozie.  It turned out to be the Apocalypse that wasn't.  Good thing!

UFO sightings have increased worldwide, during the past few months and it's been exciting.  Makes me wonder what 2013 will bring.

Throughout the coming New Year, I will continue to investigate the UFO/alien phenomena and keep everyone up-to-date on the latest sightings.  Please remember to include as much detail as possible, in your reports.  As always, witnesses remain anonymous.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, making my own prediction concerning December 21, 2012.

I have to agree with David Morrison of NASA,  that there is no planet about to collide with Earth.  Albeit, there are such things are rogue planets but if one was barreling down on us from space, we would have seen it coming months ago.  And no, it isn't hiding at the South Pole!

Planet alignment is an astronomical novelty but it does not herald the end of the world, nor does the Earth's alignment with the center of our galaxy.   In the 4 billion or so years that Earth has been spinning around the sun, it's tilted, wobbled, the magnetic field has changed, the sun has belched solar flares and gee, the Earth is still here.

Disasters happen.  The earth is an active, live planet,  subject to all manners of internal as well as external forces, such as lunar and solar activity.  Most people no longer live in caves and have this new device called a laptop, iPad or smart phone, so word does get around a lot faster than it used to (i.e., Pony Express).

An alien invasion isn't imminent;  the only lifeforms we really need to fear are ourselves and our own selfish needs. I can almost here the aliens "out there", discussing the chaos on Earth. "Can you believe this crap?  They have a good thing and all they want to do is screw it up!"

Even the Mayans themselves reject any notion of the world's end on 12/21/2012.  At a ceremony in Cuba, Mayan sage Pedro Celestino Yac Noj burned seeds and fruits to mark the end of the old calender. He is quoted as saying, "The 21st is for giving thanks and gratitude and the 22nd welcomes the new cycle, a new dawn."

My prediction is that you will wake up to a new day on December 22nd, realizing that you only have 2 days left to buy Christmas presents and taxes will still be due on April 15, 2013.   You've spent your life savings on a 3 bedroom luxury bunker and a 50,000 gallon water tank, buried somewhere in Nevada.   Good luck finding it in 5 feet of snow!

You will also realize that you now have to deal with a 10 year supply of toilet paper; several cases of batteries, MREs (meals ready to eat),  beans, rice, powdered milk and enough ammo to start and finish a small war.  Don't worry, there is always another doomsday prediction waiting on the horizon.  You are in luck!  Some of that freeze dried food has a shelf life of 25 years!

Possible Alien Remains Found In Peru

(TopNewsOnLineUK)  The remains of a large headed mummy was discovered in the city of Andahuaylillas, the discovery was made by Renato Davila Riquelme who found two sets of remains.

The first one has a very large head for the size of the body and the eye sockets are much larger than normal, at around 20 inches long it is the size of a very young child, the strange thing about it is the fontanel is still open as you would expect in a small child but in the jaw it has two large molars which are characteristic with older people.

The strangely shaped head is almost as large as its body and the eye sockets are much larger than a normal humans, in the right socket remains of an eyeball has been found and Renato Davila Riquelme who works for Privado Ritos Andinos museum in Cusco south eastern Peru will test a sample for DNA so he can clarify if these are human remains or not.

The second mummy was only 12-inches long but it lacked a face and was found in the fetal position and looked like it was wrapped in a layer like a placenta. The remains looks very much like the skull they used in the Indiana Jones film The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull which turned out to be alien and have special powers.

Several anthropologists from Spain and Russia who have examined the remains don’t believe it has any resemblance to any ethnic group in the world, they all said it was not human!

Another explanation comes from old customs used by ancient civilisations dating back about 9000 years, people like the Mayans and the North American natives.

They used to tightly bind the head of a new born baby with cloth starting around a month old and leaving it for about 6 months at that age the skull is very pliable. For cranial flattening, the head would be placed between two pieces of wood, changing the shape of the skull to either flat, round our conical was seen as a sign of social status or to signify group affiliation.

"Faster than light" particles may be physics revolution

(Reuters) - Scientists around the world said on Friday the discovery of sub-atomic particles apparently traveling faster than light could force a major rethink of theories on the makeup of the cosmos, but the findings would first have to be independently confirmed.

"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and this is an extraordinary claim," eminent cosmologist and astrophysicist Martin Rees told Reuters.

The CERN research institute near Geneva said measurements over three years had shown neutrinos pumped to a receiver in Gran Sasso, Italy, had arrived 60 nanoseconds sooner than light would have done -- a tiny difference that could nonetheless undermine Albert Einstein's 1905 special theory of relativity.

"It is premature to comment on this," Professor Stephen Hawking, the world's most well-known physicist, told Reuters. "Further experiments and clarifications are needed."

Professor Jenny Thomas, who works on neutrinos at CERN's friendly rival Fermilab near Chicago in the United States, commented: "The impact of this measurement, were it to be correct, would be huge."
Professor Geoffrey Hall of London's Imperial College, who has worked with CERN, said the

implications of the results were profound, possibly challenging "a fundamental part of our science culture."
CERN's own research director Sergio Bertolucci said if the findings were confirmed -- and at least two separate laboratories are likely to start work on this in the near future -- "it might change our view of physics."

The high level of caution is normal in science where anything that could be a breakthrough discovery, especially overturning well-established thinking, is in principle always checked and rechecked by other researchers.

The discovery would force a rethink of fundamental theories of physics and of the nature of the universe. It would herald a revolution in physics comparable to that caused by Einstein's publication of his Special Theory of Relativity.

In a comment issued by CERN, the world's leading laboratory for particle research on the edge of Geneva, Bertolucci underscored this principle.

"When an experiment finds an apparently unbelievable result and can find no artefact of the measurement to account for it, it is normal to invite broader scrutiny....it is good scientific practice," he said.

The experiment, whose measurements were posted on the scientific website arxiv.org/abs/1109.4897 overnight, found the long enigmatic neutrinos consistently traveling at an average of 60 nanoseconds faster than light.

GHOST PARTICLES

The team, working in an experiment dubbed OPERA, pumped neutrinos -- often called ghost particles because they pass through matter, and human bodies, unnoticed -- from CERN 730 kms (500 miles) to Gran Sasso south of Rome.

Over three years, and from 15,000 neutrino "events," a huge detector at the Italian center deep under mountain rock recorded what OPERA spokesman Antonio Ereditato described as the "startling" findings.
He said his team had high confidence they had measured correctly and excluded any possibility of some outside influence, or artefact, affecting the outcome. "My dream is now that other colleagues find we are right," he added.

In Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, which underpins the current view of how the universe works, nothing can travel faster than light -- 300,000 kms, or 186,000 miles, per second -- because its mass would become impossibly infinite.

Einstein's theory has been tested thousands of times over the past 106 years and only recently have there been just slight hints that the behavior of some elementary particles of matter might not fit into it.

These hints were detected last year in Fermilab's MINOS experiment with neutrinos, but -- unlike those of OPERA -- were found to be within a normal margin of error.

Fermilab's Thomas, who is likely to be involved in MINOS experiments to check the CERN-Gran Sasso measurements, said if they were correct "it would overturn everything we thought we understood about relativity and the speed of light."

Ereditato, a physicist who also works at the Einstein Institute in the University of Berne, said the potential impact on science "is too large to draw any immediate conclusions or attempt physics interpretations."

SURPRISING WITH MYSTERIES

Also declining to claim a genuine scientific discovery before other researchers had confirmed them, he said the neutrino, whose existence was first confirmed in 1934, "is still surprising us with its mysteries."

Scientific bloggers on the Internet said the particle might be slipping into and out of dimensions, other than the known four of length, breadth, depth and time, as predicted by the controversial "string theory" of how the cosmos works.

The OPERA team is due to formally present its findings to the scientific community later on Friday at CERN, home to the Large Hadron Collider, or LHC, which is smashing particles together in research on how the universe began.

UARS satellite return expected later

(BBC News)- US officials now say the fall to Earth of Nasa's six-tonne UARS satellite could occur early on Saturday (GMT).

Estimates of where debris might fall will be narrowed hours before impact.

And a UK team studying the trajectory says the most likely time for re-entry could be after 23:00 GMT Friday, and as late as 03:00 GMT on Saturday.

Most of the decommissioned and now unpowered spacecraft should simply burn up, but modelling work suggests perhaps 500kg could survive to the surface.

UARS is the largest American space agency satellite to return uncontrolled into the atmosphere in about 30 years.

As of 15:30 GMT on Friday, the satellite was orbiting at an altitude between 160km and 170km (100 miles by 105 miles).

If the estimates for its re-entry are correct, it means the spacecraft will not come in over North America.

"The spacecraft orbits the Earth in 90 minutes, so even if we're off by a few minutes in the prediction - that's thousands of kilometres down range," said Mark Matney, an orbital debris scientist from Nasa's Johnson Space Center.

"We'll be able to know generally a few hours before, but we'll only get a final report after it re-enters. Even then, we won't know where the pieces fall because they'll be scattered over a 500-mile path," he told BBC News.

The Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) will start to tumble rapidly when it engages the top of the atmosphere, about 80km up.

Mechanical forces will rip off less robust structures such as the solar array and antennas.

The heating that the satellite then experiences as it plunges deeper into the atmosphere will start to deform and melt low-temperature materials and then vaporise them.

Components expected to survive are made from high-temperature metals such as stainless steel, titanium and beryllium.

Some 26 items have been suggested as impactors. The largest is one of UARS' instrument tables and weighs over 150kg.
With more than 70% of the Earth's surface covered by water, the chances are that any debris will fall into the ocean.

But if the re-entry does occur over populated areas of land, it should make for a spectacular streak across the sky, even in daylight.

The British Kettering Group of amateur satellite observers has been running predictions based on orbital data released by US authorities.

The group's latest estimates put a re-entry somewhere between 23:00 GMT and 15:00 GMT (00:00-16:00 BST).

"Statistically speaking, the most likely epitaph for the satellite is UARS R.I.P. (Remains In Pacific)," said group member Dr Stuart Eves.

"But there is still a chance that observers in the UK with clear skies could be treated to a 'fireball' display moving generally from north-west to south-east across the sky."

The UARS satellite was deployed in 1991 from the space shuttle Discovery on a mission to study the Earth's upper atmosphere.

It contributed important new understanding on subjects such as the chemistry of the protective ozone layer and the cooling effect volcanoes can exert on the global climate.

Liability question
 
Nasa has warned members of the public not to touch any pieces of the spacecraft that may survive the re-entry, urging them to contact local law enforcement authorities.

"I've seen some things that have re-entered and they tend to have sharp edges, so there's a little concern that they might hurt themselves if they try to pick them up," said Dr Matney.

Experts have calculated the probability of anyone anywhere on Earth being injured by a falling UARS component as 1 in 3,200.

Under the terms of the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, the US government retains ownership of the debris and could, if it so wished, seek to take possession of any items found on the ground.

With those ownership rights also comes absolute liability if a piece of UARS were to damage property or injure someone.

"There is something called international responsibility; they're internationally liable," explained Joanne Wheeler of law firm CMS Cameron McKenna, and an expert representative for the UK on the UN Subcommittee for the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

"The Americans have to retain jurisdiction and control, and that pretty much can be interpreted as ownership. So they own it up there, they own it if it comes down to Earth and they're liable if it crashes into something."
Tracking stations will typically witness the uncontrolled return of at least one piece of space debris every day; and on average, one intact defunct spacecraft or old rocket body will come back into the atmosphere every week.

Something the size of UARS is seen perhaps once a year. Much larger objects such as space station cargo ships return from orbit several times a year, but they are equipped with thrusters capable of guiding their dive into a remote part of the Southern Ocean.

"Total Recall" not so far fetched?

Scientists Can (Almost) Read Your Mind, Turn Thoughts into Movies

(Techland.Time.com)- Mind, prepare to be blown—and scanned, by a device that can almost read thoughts, or at least digitize them into almost-identifiable images. No, it's not some artsy video project, it's for real: a system developed by University of California Berkeley scientists to capture visual activity in our brains and reassemble it as recognizable video data.

It sounds like science fiction, but it's not, and according to the scientists, it represents a "critical" step toward reconstructing everything from what we're thinking while awake to what's happening as we dream.

That's a video of the process up top. A test subject is undergoing an MRI while watching random video clips from Hollywood movies. On the left side, you see clips from what the subject viewed. On the right, you see the fMRI results of "quantitative modeling" using "a new motion-energy encoding model," essentially a matchup of brain activity with the viewed images. As you can see, at worst, it's capable of reconstructing what was viewed in terms of the video image's elemental geometry, e.g. broad shapes, lights and darks, etc. And at best, you can make out identifiable human forms and even vague facial features. (Interestingly, the human-related images seem the least abstruse, which, perhaps—wild speculation on my part here—says something about species-related bias in our recognition patterns.)

Here's the research team's "intuitive" description of the process:

As you move through the world or you watch a movie, a dynamic, ever-changing pattern of activity is evoked in the brain. The goal of movie reconstruction is to use the evoked activity to recreate the movie you observed. To do this, we create encoding models that describe how movies are transformed into brain activity, and then we use those models to decode brain activity and reconstruct the stimulus. 

"This is a major leap toward reconstructing internal imagery," said U.C. Berkeley neuroscientist Jack Gallant, a coauthor of the study published yesterday in the journal Current Biology (via U.C. Berkeley News Center). "We are opening a window into the movies in our minds."

How'd they do it? Volunteers remained still within the MRI scanner for several hours and watched two sets of Hollywood movie trailers. Blood flow through the visual cortex was measured and their brains divided into tiny three-dimensional cubes (no, not literally—on the computer!) called volumetric pixels...or as I first heard them described in gaming parlance decades ago, "voxels" (remember the Comanche attack helicopter series?).

Researchers created a computer model that describes how visual information translates as brain activity, then applied it to each "brain voxel." As volunteers watched the first set of movie clips, their brain activity was processed by the computer to "learn" to associate visual patterns in the clips with corresponding brain activity. 

Brain activity from viewing the second set of clips was then used to test the computer's reconstruction algorithm—the computer used 18 million seconds (5,000 hours) of random YouTube videos that didn't include the movies viewed by the test subjects to build a kind of "reference library," correlating the brain imagery with video clip imagery.

In the final step, the computer selected the 100 clips that were most like the ones the subjects had watched and combined them to form the movie you see above (the right-side feed)—an indirect way of going about it, to be sure, but astonishing for what it accomplishes.

We're probably a ways from science fiction movies like Strange Days, where "Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices" record events direct from a wearer's cerebral cortex and can translate them to others as if they were experiencing the same events firsthand—but with results like these, where computers can "learn" to accurately relate what was seen with how the brain recorded it, we're definitely getting closer.

Huge Defunct Satellite Falling to Earth Faster Than Expected, NASA Says

Space.com- NASA space junk experts have refined the forecast for the anticipated death plunge of a giant satellite, with the U.S. space agency now predicting the 6 1/2-ton climate probe will plummet to Earth around Sept. 23, a day earlier than previously reported.

The defunct bus-size spacecraft is NASA's Upper Atmospheric Research Satellite (UARS), which launched in 1991 and was shut down in 2005 after completing its mission. The satellite was expected to fall to Earth sometime this year, with experts initially pegging a weeks-long window between late September and early October, then narrowing it to the last week of this month.

That window, NASA now says, has been trimmed to just three days.

"Re-entry is expected Sept. 23, plus or minus a day. The re-entry of UARS is advancing because of a sharp increase in solar activity since the beginning of this week," NASA officials wrote in a status update today (Sept. 16). The projection is a day earlier than a previous forecast released by NASA yesterday.

NASA spokeswoman Beth Dickey confirmed with SPACE.com earlier today that the reason UARS is expected to fall early in its re-entry window is because of the sharp uptick in solar activity. Solar effects from the sun can create an extra drag on satellites in space because they can heat the Earth's atmosphere, causing it to expand, agency officials have said. Where will UARS fall?

But exactly where the UARS spacecraft will fall is still unknown.

NASA expects at least 26 large pieces of the massive satellite to survive the scorching temperatures of re-entry and reach Earth's surface. Titanium pieces and onboard tanks could be among that debris, but the UARS satellite carries no toxic propellant (NASA used up all the fuel in 2005).

The debris is expected to fall over a swath of Earth about 500 miles (804 kilometers) long, NASA officials said. [Video: Where Could UARS Satellite Debris Fall?]

There is a 1-in-3,200 chance of satellite debris hitting a person on the ground, odds that NASA says are extremely remote. Outside experts agree.

"Look at how much of Earth is covered with water," Victoria Samson, the Washington Office Director of the Secure World Foundation, an organization dedicated to the peaceful use of outer space, told SPACE.com this week. "There's a really good chance it's going to go straight into the ocean."

Constant satellite watch

NASA officials expect the UARS satellite to fall over a region somewhere between the latitudes of northern Canada and southern South America, which leaves a vast swath of the world open as a possible re-entry point. About 75 percent of the Earth's surface is covered in water, which makes an ocean splashdown likely, NASA and experts have said.

NASA and the Joint Space Operations Center of U.S. Strategic Command at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., are keeping a close watch on the falling satellite, but will only be able to pinpoint its actual crash zone to within about 6,000 miles (10,000 km) about two hours before re-entry.

As of Thursday, the UARS satellite was flying in an orbit of between 143 and 158 miles (230 to 255 km) above Earth. That orbit is dropping lower each day, NASA officials said. [Infographic: NASA's Falling UARS Satellite Explained]

NASA has advised the public not to touch any debris that may reach the surface, should it be discovered. Instead, the space agency says that anyone who finds satellite debris should contact their local law enforcement agency.

The $750 million UARS mission was designed to measure ozone and other chemical compounds found in Earth's ozone layer in order to better understand how the upper atmosphere affects our planet. It also recorded wind speeds and temperatures in the stratosphere, as well as the energy Earth received from the sun.

The craft hovered about 10" feet off the ground for a moment and then a door opened and a  small Alien creature appeared and said, "If you can name one thing I can't do I will spare your world."

At that moment Bubba spoke up and said, "Y'all got any of them "Mars Bars" on that ship?"

The little Alien turned and squabbled with it's other members for a moment, then turned back to the Hillbilly's and said in a loud voice,  "F@#&!",  then they flew away.

By now, everyone has heard of the Air Force's ultra-high-security, super-secret base in Nevada, known simply as "Area 51." Late one afternoon, the Air Force folks out at Area 51 were very surprised to see a Cessna landing at their "secret" base. They immediately impounded the aircraft and hauled the pilot into an interrogation room.

The pilot's story was that he took off from Vegas, got lost, and spotted the Base just as he was about to run out of fuel. The Air Force started a full FBI background check on the pilot and held him overnight during the investigation.

By the next day, they were finally convinced that the pilot really was lost and wasn't a spy. They gassed up his airplane, gave him a terrifying "you-did-not-see-a-base" briefing, complete with threats of spending the rest of his life in prison, told him Vegas was that-a-way on such-and-such a heading, and sent him on his way.

The next day, to the total disbelief of the Air Force, the same Cessna showed up again. Once again, the MP's surrounded the plane . . . only this time there were two people in the plane.

The same pilot jumped out and said, "Do anything you want to me, but my wife is in the plane and you have to tell her where I was last night!"

Designated "2011 MD," the space rock was first detected on June 22 by LINEAR—MIT's Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research center—and will miss the planet by just 7,500 miles. The asteroid is believed to be between 8 and 18 meters, about the size of a small house, and will next approach us in 2022. But even if our orbits intersect, it's likely to explode in our upper atmosphere, doing relatively little damage."

Bus-Sized Asteroid Barely Misses Hitting Earth

ABC World News-  A small asteroid, estimated between 16 and 65 feet in diameter, whipped past Earth this afternoon – missing by a mere 7,600 miles.

Asteroid 2011 MD approached Earth at 1 p.m. EDT a full three and-a-half hours later than astronomers first predicted, the AP reports.

The space agency had earlier predicted no probability of the asteroid striking the Earth. NASA's @AsteroidWatch tweeted last week: "There is no chance that 2011 MD will hit Earth but scientists will use the close pass as opportunity to study it w/ radar observations."

But according to NASA, the asteroid was in a very earth-like orbit about the Sun, closer to the Earth than the Moon. And for a brief time, NASA predicted that the rock would be bright enough to be seen with even a modest-sized telescope.

Diagrams from the space agency indicate that the location of closest approach for Asteroid 2011 MD was between the southern tip of South Africa and Antarctica. But astronomers from Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the western Pacific were expected to see the approach, according to Wired.com.

Peter Lake blogged from Australia that he captured images of the asteroid streaking across on the sky on the evening of June 26. According to Lake's blog, his photos were taken using a 20-inch telescope in New Mexico controlled with his iPhone.

"Its not every day, that an asteroid misses by less than 3-5 earth Radii," Lake wrote on his blog.

While Asteroid 2011 MD was the most recent flyby, it is not the closest.

NASA reported that on Feb. 4, Asteroid 2011 CQ1 zipped past Earth at a record close distance: a scant 3,400 miles away. It was discovered by NASA only 14 hours before the rock approached Earth.

Asteroid 2011 MD was discovered only four days prior to its approach on June 22 by the Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research discovery team in New Mexico.

NASA said that an object the size of Asteroid 2011 MD is expected to come this close to Earth about every six years on average. Scientists say that when Asteroid 2011 MD makes another pass in 2022, an impact with Earth is possible.

A larger, 1,300-foot asteroid, Asteroid 2005 YU55, is expected to flash past Earth on Nov. 8, 2011.

Armchair Astronomer Discovers Newest Mars Anomaly

David Martines, a California "armchair astronomer" had a YouTube video, which was heading for viral status after he uploaded a zoom in on a white, cylindrical object on Google Earth's Mars Explorer. 

According to Martines, the object ( labeled Bio Station Alpha) is "about 700 feet long and 150 feet wide." adding,  "because I'm just assuming that something lives in it or has lived in it."

His video was uploaded May 28, 2011.  After having been watched over 750,000 times, as of today the video has been removed.  I wonder why...

Fox News reported a NASA spokesman speculated that "Bio Station Alpha" is most likely a glitch in the digital imaging, or an unusual feature on the surface of the planet -- and not a Martian base.

Martines believes he knows differently.

"It's very unusual in that it's quite large, it's over 700 feet long and 150 feet wide, it looks like it's a cylinder or made up of cylinders," he said in the video.

"It could be a power station, or it could be a biological containment, or it could be a glorified garage... hope it's not a weapon.

"Whoever put it up there had a purpose I'm sure. I couldn't imagine what the purpose was. I couldn't imagine why anybody would want to live on Mars."

For those of you who have downloaded Google Earth, in Mars Explorer the coordinates of "Bio Station Alpha" are 71 49'19.73"N 29 33'06.53"W

Well, I found Martines' video before it got yanked.  Having watched it, I pulled up Google Earth's Mars Explorer and typed in the coordinates.  I found the same anomaly that he did. 

After downloading and examining photo captures of the anomaly, I have to agree with Martines.  Sorry NASA, it's more like an "unnatural feature" and your "glitch theory" has a big glitch in it.

Hi Sunny,

I also saw something at about 1:45 AM.

I took my dog out.  I live in Watauga, TX 76148. 
In the West North West sky first thought what is that?  Is it a plane on fire? Lots of air traffic around here DFW , Alliance. 

No sound with this object it looked like a triangle with black center flames on both sides or like space shuttle shape with what looked like fire where the wings are. 

I saw this around 1:40 to 1:46 am. I looked at the clock when I brought the dog in. It was 1:49 

It did not seem to be descending.  Traveled from NW to SE high in the sky. To watch it I was facing west, then south west, then south east. It was then just gone. I saw it for not sure how long just a minute or two I think. 

The first thing I did when I got done with my dogs was too look up on line to see where the space shuttle was & if they were on their way back. 

Please let me know if you find out what this was & I am glad I am not the only one that saw something last night.

I saw it too! My roommates and I were standing on the back porch and one of them said, "oh look, a shooting star!" We all thought that by the time we turned around it would be gone, but it went for about 7 or 10 seconds and traveled completely across the sky. It was very red in color and looked much closer than a shooting star. It happened just before 1.45am. Denton area. -Mike

On the evening of May 15, 2011, I received a call from a friend, who is living and working in Beijing, China.  She reported to me that she witnessed something which struck her with awe, fear and amazement.

I asked my friend if she would write up a report and send it to me, as I could not find anything in the news, or on the internet about this event.

I received her emailed report, photos and video, then shortly thereafter she emailed me again with another video, also telling me that some of the same object had returned on the evening of May 16, 2011.

As far as I know at this point, this is the only report, photos and video of these events, to come out of China.  You are seeing it here first, on LITS!

Beijing Invaded by UFOs- Report

Last night, May 15, 2011, around 8 PM I witnessed an awesome UFO event over the city of Beijing, China. I am an American living and working here and I live on the 4th floor of an apartment complex, in the old embassy district of town. My location is just southeast of Ritan Park, next door to the Silk Market.

I was in my study for an hour or so, had finished an email, logged off and turned out the light to go into another room. As I was walking out I glanced out of the window in my study, which faces north, and saw an unusual light low in the sky. It was perhaps at 10,000 feet (maybe a bit less) and not moving. 

I grabbed a pair of binoculars from another room, to get a better look and immediately knew that this was no conventional craft. It was clearly disc-shaped, was spinning and slightly swaying and flashing red, blue, green, and white. Every minute or so the red color would freeze, and a round red bulb of light would bulge from the middle of 
the craft and hold for a couple of seconds. Then it would draw back in and continue blinking the other colors.

Within 10 minutes of watching this event, 3 other smaller craft appeared out of nowhere, also flashing the same colors. I would guess the first craft was at least 100 ft. diameter, the smaller ones maybe half that. These craft were much more active and dropped lower than the first.

Then more craft showed up, each flashing a brilliant blue. These were small, perhaps 5 ft. in diameter and very active.
At this point I was beside myself, and started calling coworkers, finally reaching one. He came up to my apartment with his girlfriend and for a good 30 minutes, we all took turns watching with binoculars. By this time there were at least 20 craft in sight and counting.

My friends finally went back home and I continued watching.  I contacted a coworker across town and Northeast of my location. He could not see the ones I was watching (buildings blocking his view) but watched another group to the East of his apartment (which I could not see from my location).

I did my best to video this with my little Panasonic but was only able to capture a few seconds. I just could not seem to keep it in the viewfinder, so I finally gave up.

I decided to go to the 7th floor stairwell, to get a better view. This was about an hour into the sighting. What I saw was mind-blowing! There was a oval-shaped string of flashing blue small lights, streaming from the height of the largest craft, all the way down to the ground and back up. This appeared to be over the Northwestern corner of Ritan Park.

The lights were flashing very fast, were stationary but were also vibrating rapidly. The air in the center of the circle was distorted and vibrating, like a heat wave in the desert. It looked like Christmas lights and almost looked like a hologram. I started looking around to see if this could have been projected from somewhere nearby.

Then one craft drifted out of formation and casually flew about, down to the ground, then back up, and over toward a high rise, then back into line. Then another did the same. This went on for several minutes.

In the meantime, two of the 50 ft. craft were buzzing around this formation, as if herding the small craft and orchestrating their actions. The large craft at this point, had dropped in altitude to about 1000 ft. I looked through my binoculars at this craft, and to my amazement (and horror) saw the the upper atmosphere and beyond was filled with twinkling lights! There were hundreds of them, probably far more.

You have to realize that in Beijing, it is rare to see more than a few stars due to the light pollution (and air pollution), and that is only on perfectly clear nights. These were not stars. And yes, they were moving and zipping 
about as well.

I have to admit I panicked a little and dashed back to my apartment, made some phone calls, threw a few things in a backpack, and was ready to scamper just in case. Afterwards, maybe 20 minutes had passed, I went back to my study window and watched as these things drifted further northward. The blue lights were gone from view, the higher lights were gone, and only the big craft and 2 smaller ones were in sight. They were approximately 6-7 miles from my location, moving up and down in height at no higher than 1000 feet, occasionally dropping below the tree line and back up.

I walked away for maybe 10 minutes, came back and only the large craft was in sight. Less than a minute later, a white light came up from below the tree line and took position under the big craft. A few seconds after that, a green one. And after that, a bright blue one.

A few minutes went by, then all dropped again below tree height and that was the last I saw of them. The time was 10:15 PM.

Never during this display did I (or my coworker across town) see any military aircraft. We never heard a siren, nor did we see anyone reacting to this event. There is obviously a media blackout concerning this (it's China, so no big  surprise), because there has been nothing on the news, in the papers, or on the net. Nobody I know, other than my two coworkers and their respective girlfriends, saw anything. However, I've only talked to 10 other people about it and there are a few hundred at my workplace, so who knows.

Since Beijing never sleeps and has a population in the millions, I hope someone out there got good footage and can get it out soon. This was huge, way bigger than the Phoenix lights event or anything else I've ever seen or heard about.

For anyone wondering when the invasion will happen, it just has.

For the record, the sky at the time was mostly clear, the temperature was in the low 60's, and there was only a light occasional breeze.

Then some of the objects returned the next evening...

UPDATE TO THIS REPORT

I'm also totally amazed that they came back. This time another coworker watched them. He was so upset that he missed the BIG party on Sunday, so the minute I spotted the bastards I called him.

These things got all the way down to ground level, like they were buzzing something. The bigger ones were a lot more active as well. For awhile, some blue ones were in a slanted H formation (they did this at one point on Sunday also).

If nobody over that way saw these, then they must all have been unconscious! I estimate they (the objects) were just this side of the Olympic Park.

The jet I heard was just an airliner. I never saw it but assume. My coworker on that side of town said airline traffic was coming and going as usual. The air space here is extremely restricted, and I've only ever seen planes go from the northeast (airport), to directly south. Yesterday around 5-ish, I did see what I believe was a fighter or some other small jet hauling ass, flying from east to west and to my north. In other words, cutting across the sky where these things have been doing their thing.

Didn't see any other aircraft during the activity (which I watched from 8:30-9:30). Did not see them after that and was too tired to care right at that moment. Slept only a couple hours on Sunday, fully clothed and with my boots on (so I could hit the ground running in case something happened).

This morning I saw 2 contrails in the sky . One going south, per usual. And one cutting east to west. It's slightly overcast so I don't see anything else out there, but who knows.  And you are right, this isn't over. If there isn't some announcement this week, I'd be totally stunned.

We did this as if we were watching a TV show each night.nothing to make a big deal over.Our family friends were Mr. Glen and also Mr.Carpenter.The ones we saw in Alvin, the guys in black would show up, they said they were salesmen and would go house to house and ask what they saw. They claimed it was gas burn off from the oil wells or swamp gas. As if we didn't know what that looked like. The men in black blocked off the road and would not let us go check on the lights coming from our friends home area.

I received an email from the witness of this sighting [MUFON Case # 27881].  I asked him a few questions and here is his response.

Witness states in email:

"I am suspicious that I have lost time from that day, which is strange. I remember that I did not see the crafts movement from the silo down to the tree line which is unusual since I kept my eye on it the whole time. I watched it from approx 4:00 pm until sunset which is when it finally was totally out of view. I figured that to be somewhat over an hour until mufon contacted me and wanted as detailed information as I could give them. I looked at the sun tables for that day and sunset was at 6:54 pm with would have made my viewing closer to 3 hours which either I lost track of time or I just can't explain it, I never left my hunting position. Also I have seen many strange light & object sightings before and after this sighting over the years but nothing like this incident and nothing I could actually say without a doubt was a UFO.

[personal information removed] I am truly a Missouri guy who doesn't believe anything unless I see it with my own eyes. Just the other morning I took pictures of a pulsating light over the trees on our property in South Carolina but I would not claim it was a UFO because I did not see it close enough to identify it. I have been and will always be willing to take a lie detector test, psychological test or any other regarding the incident in October 05, it was a very very clear beautiful day and the whole incident is embedded in my memory like photographic memory. The only part of that day is not clear is the time loss, which is bothering me because I do not recall any time loss, and even to this day it seems like a little over an hour of watching this craft."

I asked more about the UFO and if the witness if he had any marks on his body, or became ill after the sighting.  Here is his reply:
"Sunny, I really do not think I was abducted by anyone, alien or government. I never moved from the spot I was hunting from. I think maybe due to the spectacle I just lost track of time maybe. Yes I am very sure the tips were point like a true acute triangle, it was like a arrow head, slice of pizza, very elongated in the front end but in proportion if that makes sense. From the side you could not tell shape except it appeared to be a straight thick line. As for my health it declined considerably after the incident whether coincidence or not, arthritis, gal bladder removed, kidney surgery and really bad allergies, overall not been well Thanks, S."

Note:  I have suggested to the witness that he contact someone who can assist him to remember more of this sighting.  Although the witness does not believe that he was abducted, there is still the possibility of such activity, given the fact that he experienced "missing time" and has suffered from a number of ailments since this event.

I was bow hunting on a private farm in Agency, Missouri ( Buchanan County )October 5th 2005. I list the time of encounter to be that of approx 1 hour but I would estimate that it was actually longer in retrospect. I was sitting in a fixed position behind a downed tree on the north side of 2 large fields and had a clear view or both, as well a corn silo and farm equipment directly across from me on top of a hill which was approx 500 yards from my location.

At approx 4:00 pm I noticed a large thin object approaching the corn silo on the hill. It appeared at that point to be the size of a half dollar at arms length when held horizontally. At that time to me it appeared to be a large military plane heading north towards my location and my view was that of looking at an airplane heading towards me.

I resumed my hunting looking for any deer in the area, then with some elapsed time I looked back towards the object,and it was still there and at that point made me somewhat curious because it did not appear to have not progressed towards my location at all. It was one of those moments that you just say hmmmm and I continued my hunting.

I scanned the fields and noticed a farmer combining his field on the adjacent property approximately 600 to 700 yards away. I then looked back towards the silo and noticed the craft had advanced a little closer though and appeared to me to be now above the silo and larger then a silver dollar at arms length. I became more interested as being use to seeing aircraft fly by out towards Kansas where Roscrans Air Guard is located, I surmised that this was unusual because of the amount of time that had passed and the lack of ground it had covered. It had been approx 15 to 20 minutes at this point and any other aircraft would have flown past sometime ago.

The object had my attention now but being the hunter that I am, I did another scan of the fields. When I returned my view to the location of the silo, the object no appeared to sitting in a 45 degree angle over the silo, the object now had my full attention and I did not look away from it again. It remained in this position for for about 15 to 20 minutes, it then slowly righted itself and appeared to go back to its original course and position in the air. I noticed now that it slowly moved away from the silo in a northwesterly direction at the speed of a very very slow moving helicopter. This entire time the object appeared to be as twice the size of a silver dollar held horizontally at arms length.

Withing approx 8 mins it had worked its way to the top tree line on the southern part of the field I was sitting which was no further then 160 yards, it still appeared as a thick line with no protrusions of any kind on it, as thick as pack of cigarettes held at arms length and very long maybe 100 yards long. It made no noise what so ever no movement of the trees.

I took my eyes off it for a second to look over to see if the man on the combine was looking at it but he appeared to be oblivious to it or maybe unable to see it from his location. It continued to move ever so slowly across the tree line and seemed to me to cover approximately 10 to 12 full grown large oak trees at the tops. The object worked its way slowly until it passed right in front of me above the tree line, I still had no idea what it was until it reach my 1 o'clock position still less the 160 yards from me and right above the tree tops, it was gigantic.

When it hit my 1 o'clock it rolled up with its belly turning flush towards the north, the only way to describe it was like it was riding up a wave and then going down the wave or like a piece of paper turning up and floating down changing its course to the south. I had an unobstructed up close view of the bottom of this object. it was a perfect long triangle like that of a slice of pizza, dull grey metal not shiny at all. on the bottom it was covered in evenly spaced symmetrical dull white globe lights that appeared to me to look like dull white halves of a globe but much much larger. I could not get an exact count of the lights because because I was in awe at what i was looking at so to speak. I would say around 9 lights that filled the whole bottom of the craft in uniformity.

After turning its belly up to the north floated ever so slowly to the south and then west following the tops of the trees until it moved away from and appeared to move back behind the trees some ways off. I have never in my life seen anything like this before and have not seen anything like this since.

I have since moved from Missouri, but the owners of the property have told me they too have seen this craft a couple different times during the night flying over the fields and at one time shinning a light like a beam onto the field.
