Update: Was there a possible UFO crash near Round Rock, TX in 1977?

Recently a man sent me information cerning a possible UFO crash near Round Rock, Texas.  When he was approached in 1977, he was told there was a suspected airplane crash.

After an extensive search, the only airplane crashes I've been able to come up with for Round Rock Texas, was one on  October 18, 1982 and one for June 9, 1968.  However, there was one airplane crash in Pflugerville, on August 24, 1976.

So what was it that crashed near Round Rock in 1977?  Perhaps we will never know.

Original Report:

Was there a possible UFO crash near Round Rock, TX in 1977?




A man of 76 years, who now resides in South Texas sent me information about a possible UFO crash that occurred in 1977.

Here is that account that I have pieced together from questioning (exerts from several emails):

In 1977 I lived in a small rent house with my wife and 8 year old son north east of Round Rock, Texas. I'm reasonably sure it was spring of 77...  It was warm and the 20 acres I searched was very muddy.

About 10 p.m. one night some fellows drove into our yard and asked if we owned any property near by.... I told them that we did own 20 acres between this location and Round Rock.

They told us that there was a suspected plane crash in the area and would we please check to see if it might be on our property.   Which I immediately did, and there was nothing.

Lots of local people were out driving the back roads and communicating by the then prolific Citizens band radio.  We were told by the radio to go home, quit wasting our time and gas, that nothing was reported missing from Austin's airport, Georgetown airport, or Bergstrom Field south of Austin.

I don't know where the original 'plane crash' report came from.

Next morning a friend with connections to the local newspaper (a reporter for the Round Rock Leader, a rather typical small town newspaper) went to a large commercial egg producer in the area....  It was cordoned off. He was told to leave by armed military personnel.

There was a bit of local talk... some seemed to believe it was a small military aircraft with some sort of ''secret'' eqpt. on board.

Later several large military vehicles were seen leaving the property hauling large canvas covered objects.

There was never any mention of this by any news media.

I realize that this is yet another 'untraceable' bit of information..  I have since lost touch with the gentleman I mention who was my only contact with the incident.

There didn't seem to be much interest in the event, and apparently on a very few actual witnesses to the trucks that left the scene early the next morning.  I am trying to find the gentleman I mentioned.... he is a difficult fellow to keep track of.  He was not known to be very 'wordy'.  He was a close personal friend.  He and his family were my back fence neighbors for 3 years.

I was a salvage diver in my youth...  Have always been a treasure hunter (never found anything) and spent over 40 years in the museum profession.  Also, in my younger days I was a pilot and consider myself to be a fair observer.  I have seen one phenomena which was 'not normal'.  A light that passed across the area, then took an abrupt 90 degree turn and streaked away.  My son saw it from a different location as well.

My reason for sending this is only to have it recorded someplace, where it might be referenced with anything else in the same time period, or location.

Did Admiral Byrd find a world inside our world?  I am reminded of D.U.M.B (Deep Underground Military Bases), like the one located in Dulce, New Mexico.

Do I believe there is a paradise ( as described by Byrd), located under our feet?  If this were a starship, I'd say "perhaps" but having studied Geology and Earth Sciences, I am more inclined to say no.

I saw the same object related in this post.

I went to the balcony to look at a plane that seemed out of the normal route (we have airport near here, this happens from time to time) when I was surprised at the sight of a huge boomerang, semi transparent, which seemed to reflect the sky above. I saw this object because it passed under the aircraft and reflected it distorted. Slowly and quietly followed a straight line and disappeared. The UFO seemed a little bit bigger than the airplane. ( a Boeing 737 or 777) . This sight was in Feb 16 2011, 10:00pm.

"Linear Formation" of Lights Passes Over Pickup Carrying 6 Passengers

Summary:  A linear object with 3 bright lights, flew about 10 feet over our truck while traveling N on I 5.

Report:
While traveling north bound on Interstate 5, approximately 30 miles SE of Fresno, a linear object with three bright lights (Two on the end and one in the middle) approached our truck, containing six passengers. When we first saw it, the linear object was around 500 yards away.

Five of the passengers, including me, saw the formation of lights continuing to fly towards our truck. During this time, the object rotated similar to a plane that has stalled. We were confused and somewhat scared as to what this object is.

It headed straight towards our truck where it flew about 10-20 feet above us. It was close enough to where the driver, and the two front passengers, one of which was me, ducked and screamed.

While continuing to drive, we watched behind us as the three bright lights lifted up and dove into the ground and then back up again. The bright lights spun and rotated until it finally disappeared.

The object was about 30 feet long.

Keep in mind that it wasnt until afterwards we realized that it made absulutely no sound when it passed over our truck.

And the compass on our truck didnt work after the sighting.

But Radio 5 Live took on a more otherworldly tone this morning when one of its own sports reporters claimed he had a close brush with a UFO.

'Freaked out' sports journalist Mike Sewell said he was left gobsmacked when he spotted a huge 'disc-shaped' aircraft hovering above the Hertfordshire countryside on his way to work in the early hours of the morning.

Mr Sewell was driving from his home in the Midlands to catch an early morning flight from Stansted airport when he saw the UFO in the night sky over the village of Cottered, near Buntingford, he claimed.

He called his employers at Radio 5 Live and his interview with presenter Nicky Campbell was broadcast to millions of listeners.

He said: 'I was probably about 15 or 20 miles from Stansted at 4.15 in the morning and there was this big bright light in the sky descending towards the road.

'As it got closer it then banked to the left, and as it banked to the left and went across the countryside I could see underneath it.

'It wasn't an aeroplane, and it wasn't a helicopter. Certainly of a kind of - and I dread saying this - disc shape. It had several lights flashing all around it.

'Underneath there were at least two large panel lights, soft white lights, and then it just sat or circled a certain area above the field for a few moments.

'I was so gobsmacked, I was trying to negotiate the road, which was a small country lane. Eventually I dropped down and lost sight of it but certainly for two or three minutes I saw what, I think, was not a normal aeroplane.'

The well-respected reporter, who was flying to Sweden for tonight's Champions' League qualifying game between Glasgow Rangers and Malmo, said a van driver in front of him also saw the UFO.

He added: 'I'd love the person who was driving in front of me in what looked like a VW silver transporter to contact the police or yourselves [the radio station] because they saw it as well.

'I was wide awake and I'm of sound mind. I was completely freaked out by it. This was a long way from Stanstead airport -  at least 15 miles - and the aircraft was going westerly rather than easterly towards Stansted.

'It was not the shape of a normal aircraft it was a big disc, round-shaped craft and it didn't leave.

'I watched it for two or three minutes before I eventually lost sight of it. I decided to go back again through the village. It's a very quiet area and I've spoken to someone who knows it very well and they said there's no military installations in that area so I would be intrigued to hear if anybody else saw it.'

UFO expert Timothy Good said Mr Sewell's sighting was 'absolutely fascinating' and was 'clearly not a conventional aircraft of any type'.

During the interview on Radio 5 Live, which followed his sports report, he added: 'I'm most impressed, I wish I'd seen it myself. I would assume that a number of other people would have seen this object.

'It might be extra terrestrial, it might well be one of ours. Top secret aircraft and spacecraft have been flown by the U.S. military and by the British military for quite some time now.

'As Ben Rich said, who developed the stealth aircraft back in 1993 in the presence of two friends of mine: "We now have the technology to go to the stars". And that was back in 1993.'

When Mr Good was asked to elaborate on where this technology came from, he replied: 'Alien crafts. The study of alien crafts that have been recovered and by liaising with actual aliens who have helped us develop this technology.'

Astronomy 101 - Chasing UFOs... or was it?

So you love to watch the night sky but you aren't sure of what you are looking at. 

"Gee, I never noticed that star before.  Maybe it's a planet... or a UFO!"

Well, don't get your shorts bunched.  That flashing, twinkling, or even fixed light up in the night sky is most likely a star, or planet and not a UFO.

If you see a light in the sky that is just sitting there and you just don't know for sure, the best way to find out just what it is, is to look at a sky chart and see what is supposed to be there.

Once you learn to recognize the different planets and stars that are visible in your night sky in any given month, then it is much easier to determine if what your seeing is a known celestial body, or an unidentified object (UFO, UAP, etc.).

Stars and planets often get misidentified as unidentified flying objects (UFOs), or unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs).

Sighting of "Moon-like" Object and Possible Abduction Near Ranger, TX - 1983

This is a preliminary report of a sighting in 1983, by a local witness, that apparently began in Stephens County and ended up in Eastland County.

Report:
A male witness [Name withheld by SW/LITS] whom I interviewed, filed a personal report with me that on a Fall evening in 1983, at approximately 9:20 p.m., he was on his way to Ranger, Texas from Breckenridge, when he saw a bright light in the sky. [Witness stated to have actually first seen the object on Wayland Rd.  He believes the truck died after he turned onto Morton Valley Rd.]

As he got closer to the object, his pickup sputtered and died, so he coasted to the side of the road.  At this point, he was just a few minutes from town.

When first seen, the object was to his southeast, traveling at an extremely slow speed, headed North.  At it's closest to him, he estimates it was about 1/4 miles away.  He describes it as "barely moving."

The witness exited his vehicle, raised the hood of the truck and attempted to tighten the battery cables.  The object was very visible and lit the whole area.  He could see inside the hood very well, even though it was a dark night. 

The witness described the object as a huge round white light, so bright that it hurt his eyes to look at it.  He said that from his perspective, it was 4 times the size of the moon, that it looked like a "huge moon."

The witness estimated that the object was 1/4 mile from him, at 40 degrees above the horizon, at about 1000 feet AGL.  He estimates the size at between 200 and 300 feet, though he considers that a conservative figure.  He could see house about 1/2 mile away with their porch lights on, or "guard lights" in the yards.

There was a gas plant nearby, along with woods, fields and oil field equipment, including tank batteries.

There are airports located in Ranger, Eastland, Cisco and Breckenridge.

The only sound the witness could hear was the "pop pop" of a nearby pumpjack.  Otherwise, it was totally silent.  He felt all alone with this thing in the sky.

The witness got into his pickup and tried to start it but it would not run and he thought the battery was dead.  He figured he would have a long walk to town. The object was still there but moving slowly.  The light was like it was shining on him and all around him. He could see under the hood very well.

He lit a cigarette, then looked inside his toolbox.  When he looked back, the light was gone and he was in the darkness again.

He turned the key and the truck started right up, just like nothing had ever happened.  He then drove on into town and when he got to the store, it had been closed for some time.  He can not account for the time.

It takes about 30-35 minutes to get to where he was going.  He left with 30 minutes to spare.  He estimates that he watched the object for about 20 minutes, from the time he first saw the object, to when it disappeared and he was able to start his pickup. The witness lost at least 20 to 30 minutes but does not remember anything else happening.

The witness also states that he had another sighting after that.  However, we will file a separate report for that incident, as well as a crop circle that he and his boss found in a wheat field.

The witness plans to take me to the location soon, so that I can try to determine a more precise distance and elevation this object was from the witness, better determining it's size.

I will post updates, as I procure more information during this investigation.
