Unidentified Lights Seen Over McKinney and Frisco, Texas

There have been a number of sightings recently, of unidentified lights in our Texas skies.  On February 5, 2012, witnesses in McKinney, Texas had just finished watching the Superbowl when they observed a a bright green light living no trail, descend towards the Raytheon Space and Air Systems complex in Dallas.

On February 4, 2012, separate witnesses observed blue glowing spheres traveling through the night sky.

Me, my neighbor and his 10 year old son had just finished watching the super bowl at my house. As we were standing out front of my house, looking south as we talked, a very bright green, almost laser-like green orb appeared out of nowhere at about 40 degrees in the horizon, traveling from the east to the west. The orb continued on an arc-like path toward the ground. Two houses down is a two story home and we lost sight of it as it fell. This object had no trail behind it, just a very bright green orb. Less than a half-mile from my home to the south is a Raytheon Space and Air Systems complex and it appeared to have fallen exactly at this place. My neighbor was looking away but his son and I saw the whole thing. This happened at approximately 9:30 p.m.. I am regularly seeing strange objects in the sky in north Texas but this is the first time I have reported any of them and it is the first time I have ever seen an object like this. There is no doubt in my mind that this object came down to the ground somewhere either on the Raytheon property or very close to it just south of my house.

My wife was outside jumping rope when she looked up to a bright star (i think it is Venus)and noticed 30-50 blue glowing spheres move through the sky around 9pm on Feb 4th, 2012 (Frisco, TX). She made me aware and when I stepped outside I also saw several blue spheres move from the North to the South. We were looking West about 50-60 degree from horizon). Some were above the clouds and some were below the clouds and they moved faster than a plane. They were blue glowing spheres moving to the south. They disappeared in the distance to the south and some disappeared above the clouds. There was no noise associated with them at all. Not sure what made us shake more, the cold weather last night or what we saw and could not explain...

Just witnessed something I have no explanation for. 5 or so blue lights (not blinking) moving in the same direction (South/South-East) while keeping perfect order. Followed by 4 or 5 blue lights moving on their own (but in the same direction as the first 5). Relatively fast speed. No sound at all. It all happened in a matter of 10-15 seconds. Regarding the first 5 lights moving in the same direction and staying at the same distance from each other I at first thought it was a large flying object, but then I could see the sky in between the lights. It's really hard to explain, I really have no idea what it could've been. But I'm positive they were not airplanes (the lights were blue and not blinking at all and I could see airplanes flying in the sky at the same exact time in different directions). I'm curious to find out if someone else has seen the same thing. Like I said it happened over Frisco TX 75035, Saturday February 4, at about 9:05 PM.

There was no sound at all. The blue lights seemed bigger then the blinking lights of a plane, so I'd guess they were lower. But the sky was cloudy and the lights were not lower than the clouds (if it makes sense).

"Russia’s space experts say missions to Earth’s satellite hold great potential, with polar areas of the moon possibly being used for building manned lunar bases, Pravda reported.

On Jan.19, Popovkin announced plans to establish lunar research bases with U.S. and European partners, according to RIA-Novosti new service.

A week after the announcement, Republican candidate Newt Gingrich aired plans to build a permanent outpost on the moon by 2020 if elected president."

Space Junk, Meteor, or UFO? FAA Says Texas and Oklahoma Fireball Was Meteor

Seen from San Antonio, north to Oklahoma City and possibly southeastern Kansas (I received a report from one observer in Parsons, Kansas), a brilliant fireball sped across the southern skies.

February 1, 2012, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a fireball lit up the Texas and Oklahoma skies. Some observers reported that it lasted up to one minute.  A few say  they saw it disintegrate, while others did not.

I received the following email from a parent reporting their 12 year old son's UFO sighting.

This report is "as is", with no corrections.

My 12 year old son would like to report the following:

UFO sighted this evening Feb 1 2012 at around 8 pm.

- One witness (him).

- 5 seconds.

- North Murphy Texas USA

- 200 feet high and 800 feet away.

- Spherical shape, huge, bright white.

When I wrote back and asked several questions, I received this reply:

My son says that he was hearing a low pitch humming like a refrigerator.

The light came from West and headed in Southeast direction.

He lost sight when the object went past his room window.

Experts say Gingrich moon base dreams not lunacy

WASHINGTON (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich wants to create a lunar colony that he says could become a U.S. state. There's his grand research plan to figure out what makes the human brain tick. And he's warned about electromagnetic pulse attacks leaving America without electricity.

To some people, these ideas sound like science fiction. But mostly they are not.

Several science policy experts say the former House speaker's ideas are based in mainstream science. But somehow, Gingrich manages to make them sound way out there, taking them first a small step and then a giant leap further than where other politicians have gone.

Gingrich's promise that "by the end of my second term we will have the first permanent base on the moon" got amped up in a recent debate in Florida, which lost thousands of jobs with the end of the space shuttle program. By then, the lunar base had become a colony and even a potential state, and his moon ideas were ridiculed by rival Mitt Romney.

Returning to the moon and building an outpost there is not new. Until three years ago, it was U.S. policy and billions of dollars were spent on that idea.

Staying on the moon dates at least to 1969, when a government committee recommended that NASA first build a winged, reusable space shuttle followed by a space station and then a moon outpost. In 1989, President George H.W. Bush proposed going to the moon and staying there.

Sixteen years later, in 2005, his son, President George W. Bush, proposed a similar lunar outpost, phased out the space shuttle program and spent more than $9 billion designing a return to the moon program.

George Washington University space policy director Scott Pace, who was NASA's associate administrator in the second Bush administration and is a Romney supporter, said the 2020 lunar base date Gingrich mentioned was feasible when it was proposed in 2005.

But it is no longer, felled by funding cuts and President Barack Obama's decision to cancel the program. Pace said it would be hard to figure out when NASA could get back to the moon, but that such a return is doable.
What kept killing return-to-the moon plans were the costs, starting in 1969. The proposal died 20 years later when the price tag was released: more than $700 billion in current dollars. The second President Bush's plans started running into problems due to insufficient funding. After a special commission said those plans were not sustainable, Obama cancelled the return-to-the-moon program. Instead, he ordered NASA to aim astronauts toward an asteroid and eventually Mars, something many space experts say is even more ambitious.

"Some of you may like it and you may dislike it, but I gave the boldest explanation of going into space since John F. Kennedy in 1961," Gingrich said this week in Florida. "I believe in an America of big ideas and big solutions. I believe if we unleash the American people we will rebuild the American dream."

In Florida, nearly all the Republican presidential candidates promoted private companies sending astronauts into space. Several companies are building private spaceships. Commercial space companies taking over the job of getting Americans into low Earth orbit is a cornerstone of the Obama space plan. But, again, money has been an issue.

For example, NASA received $406 million in its current budget for private space programs. Obama had asked Congress for $805 million.

Neal Lane, former head of the National Science Foundation and White House science adviser during the Clinton administration, said Gingrich's proposals aren't crazy, although he may disagree with some of them. Gingrich's ideas and actions are "very pro-science," said Lane, who credited Gingrich with protecting federal science research from budget cuts in the 1990s.

"He's on the edge of mainstream thinking about big science. Except for the idea of establishing a colony on the moon, it's not over the edge," added Syracuse University science policy professor Henry Lambright.

Back in October 2009, we announced IBEX’s first major science results, including the observation of what has become known as the "IBEX Ribbon." Since that time, IBEX has been detecting energetic neutral atoms coming from the boundary of our Solar System and from regions of our Earth’s magnetosphere, and we have periodically updated the IBEX website with information on these topics.

In those first 2009 science results, we also announced the first–ever direct observations of neutral hydrogen and oxygen atoms drifting in from the interstellar medium, outside our heliosphere. Our talented science team has continued to make observations of these – and other – interstellar neutrals, and we are proud to showcase their work, published as a set of six papers in the February issue of Astrophysical Journal Supplements as a special section titled "IBEX Direct Observations of Interstellar Neutrals." I hope you will enjoy learning more about this fascinating aspect of IBEX’s exquisite capabilities, which are even allowing us to probe the local region outside our heliosphere. What has IBEX detected?

IBEX has measured hydrogen, oxygen, neon, and helium atoms drifting in from outside our heliosphere toward Earth’s region of our Solar System. Atoms such as these are called "interstellar neutral atoms" or "ISNs." Prior to IBEX the only other spacecraft to detect ISNs was Ulysses, over a decade ago, and it could only measure neutral interstellar helium. IBEX’s measurements of interstellar hydrogen, oxygen, and neon are the first–ever detections of these atoms by any spacecraft. The IBEX–Lo instrument on IBEX detects all of these ISNs.

How do we know these ISNs are from outside our heliosphere?

Our Sun emits a "wind" of material outward, at an average of a million miles (1.6 million kilometers) per hour. As the solar wind streams away from the Sun, it races out toward the space between the stars. We think of this space as "empty" but it contains traces of gas, dust, and charged, or "ionized," gas – together called the "interstellar medium." The solar wind blows against this material and clears out a cavity–like region in the ionized gas. This cavity is called our "heliosphere."
