Reporter Angelia Joiner Poses the BIG Question

Can we handle THE TRUTH?

Abilene Reporter News- Media outlets, NASA, and the Internet are all abuzz this week with talk of extraterrestrial forms of life.

In a London Associated Press story, astrophysicist Stephen Hawking recently warned that while aliens likely are out there, it’s not a good idea to try to contact them. In fact, it might be dangerous to do so.
The announcement came as Discovery Channel was about to broadcast the documentary “Stephen Hawking’s Universe,” and he likened advanced life forms arriving on Earth to Christopher Columbus discovering the Americas and noted the poor outcome for American Indians.

Hawking’s announcement immediately made big waves on Internet forums and blogs where people interested in the subjects of UFOs and ETs could not type fast enough. Some thought Hawking had a fair point but as Open Minds Forum “Garuda” posted, “Stephen Hawking is without a doubt one of the most brilliant minds alive on the planet today. His fields of expertise, however, have to do with mathematics and theoretical physics. He has no qualifications whatsoever to relevantly speculate about how extraterrestrials might behave, and, quite frankly, his statement just confirms that.”

Meanwhile, NASA held a news media teleconference Wednesday and said the distinguished panel would discuss astrobiology research, including evidence of extraterrestrial life, the search for life on Mars, and the study of life beginnings on Earth. Also discussed was the possibility of other planets in the cosmos that could be habitable as well as potential technology research.

Sunny Williams, a Breckenridge resident and retired professional photographer, said she knows Earth already is being visited from beyond.
“I get reports from people with what they’ve seen and experienced and I have my own experience and research,” Williams said, adding that she believes “our government is covering it up.”

Williams said she has taken several photos of unexplained aerial phenomena. She said she took a photo of a disc over some trees outside of Cisco while she was on her way to Cross Plains. This photo, along with her account and others, can be viewed at www.lightsinthetexassky.blogspot.com. She said she has always been somewhat interested in the phenomenon but began doing research in earnest in June 2008.

Stephenville and surrounding area residents had a mass sighting that was internationally reported in a media frenzy in January 2008. Reports of UFOs continued throughout the fall and have trickled in ever after. Erath County Constable Precinct 2 Lee Roy Gaitan was a witness to the January event and has appeared on CNN’s Larry King Live and numerous other radio and television shows. He said his experience on that night changed his life.

Gaitan said at first he was inclined to believe that perhaps what was being seen was some classified military project. But now he believes his sighting “was not of this Earth.” He said he knows of high-ranking officials that claim they have classified information on the subject.

“I do believe the military is conducting a mass cover up due to the incredible number of flares being dropped here now and since that time,” Gaitan said. “They’re trying to make people believe it’s flare activity here, and that is not the case. There are other law enforcement people that believe the same thing but cannot come forward for fear of losing their jobs.”

As reports started picking up in the fall of 2008, including solid craft and flare sightings, a Freedom of Information Act request was sent by Robert Powell, Mutual UFO Network research director, to the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth for release dates.

The information was requested from Oct. 21 Nov. 19, 2008. The dates the base said they were in the Brownwood Military Operating Area using flares was Oct. 21-24, 27, 28, 30, and 31 and Nov. 2, 4-6, 10, 13, 14, 18, 19. Specific times for the drops were not given. Some witnesses have said the drops were not in the MOA, which includes just a small part of Dublin but were over the Stephenville area.

“I asked them to reconfirm that they truly meant that flares were released on all of those days and they said ‘yes.’ I’m surprised they released flares so many times,” Powell said.

Gaitan’s account, along with seven others, matched up in time and direction to an unknown found in radar data by Powell and Glen Shulze, retired radar specialist. At the same time, 10 military jets were accounted for in the data, including two that traveled from the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth to a military operating area in Oklahoma. Instead of the two jets making a direct return to their base in Fort Worth, they swooped down through Comanche, Dublin and Stephenville at the time the sightings were being reported.

At 8 p.m. on January 8, when the requested FAA data ran out, the unknown object was 10 miles from President Bush’s Crawford ranch flying unimpeded without a transponder. This report can be viewed at www.mufon.com.

At first the Fort Worth base said it had no aircraft up on the night in question, only to recant two weeks later saying a mistake had been made and actually there were 10 jets in the air that night. The recant was made about the time the FAA would have received the Freedom of Information Act for radar data.
