Movies and the UFO Phenomena
Will the Earth Stand Still?
by S. Williams
Aurora, Texas; Roswell, New Mexico; Kecksburg, Pennsylvania; Shag Harbor, Nova Scotia, Canada and now the Ottawa River in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada are all supposed sites where UFOs crashed. The list goes on, from the Phillippines and Japan, to Russia and more. Why are UFOs plummeting from the sky and where the hell is the proof (covered up) of their existence? Maybe it's in the new cell phone that you can't live without, or how about that microwave oven that you pop your popcorn in on movie night at the family home. Maybe it's in the fiber optics cable that delivers cable TV, so that you can watch re-runs of Independence Day, or Men in Black (I, II and soon to be III).
The evidence is all around you. Humankind has made enormous leaps in technology since WWII. Just where did we come up with all this technology? What inspired this new renaissance? Did we suddenly get a whole lot smarter? And what's with all the UFO movies?
Let's start with Men in Black. Oh, I love MIB (the movie, not the real guys). Is the movie so far fetched? Maybe not completely. The movie itself was inspired by a comic book of the same name, which in turn was evidently inspired by accounts of UFOs and 'men in black' encounters.
What about Independence Day, starring Will Smith (again)... I think it's a cleaver remake of War of the Worlds (as told on a radio program, by Orson Wells in 1938). The original had people actually running into the streets in panic, looking for the alien ships. Some people even committed suicide, thinking the world was coming to an end. I had a first hand account from my mother, as to how people reacted. She was smarter. She heard the disclaimer at the beginning of the broadcast and knew it wasn't really happening.
Then there is the 1953 War of the Worlds movie, the newer remake (2005) of WotW, Steven Spielberg's ET, The Day the Earth Stood Still (the old version and the new version- and remember the phrase, "Klaatu barada nikto."?), all the Star Trek Movies and TV shows and now the release of the latest in possible indoctrination movies: Race to Witch Mountain. I use the word "indoctrination", due to the fact that if you see something enough, you get used to it. Are we being set up to be 'introduced' to the real ETs?
Here's something that has really been bugging me. Remember the Borg on Star Trek TNG, and Star Trek: Voyager? The Borg traveled around in huge cube and sphere-shaped ships. What are some of the things that people are sighting today? You guessed it, cubed and sphere-shaped UFOs. Coincidence? That invokes a serious "hmm".
On the July 5-7, 1996 Cover Page of USA TODAY, Patricia Edmonds and Peter Eiser said, "You can't prepare to fight an enemy you don't know. 'The aliens waged 'War of the Worlds' in 1938 by radio. They invaded again in the 1953 film version. They're coming to destroy us this summer in 'Independence Day'.... which suggests the military has a secret New Mexico facility where it's hiding hard evidence that there are aliens out there. And the military continues to deny."
Well, it's 2009 and the fact remains, the military is still denying.
This all leads us back to UFO crashes, advanced technology, movie plots and cover-ups. It's all just harmless entertainment, right? We (the movie going people of America) love a good story, we love UFOs and aliens. Will the aliens love us?
Stay tuned...
